So I thought I would review my recent trip to Iceland, well I say recent and it was about a month ago now, but considering I am getting back on this blogging I wanted to share my thoughts with you guys about the place! I am working on making a video and when I get all the footage together I will give you a link to that as well.
Now I know what a lot of people would think, why the hell would anyone go to Iceland. Simply summed up in four words.. Groupon and Northern Lights. A group of eight of us found a Groupon deal for a hotel, flights and Northern Lights trip all in one for around £200. Now once we had changed a flight and changed our trip time to the Saturday rather than the friday, as you can image with Groupon the price went up to £260 BUT this is still cheap for a four day trip Friday to Monday.
Here is a similar Groupon deal to what my friends and I bought.
Now, we decided to book all our trips before hand so when we got there all the money we needed was for food. In terms of money, me and my boyfriend took £200 worth of Icelandic Krona with us which was more than enough for everything. Iceland has this stigma of being really expensive but after their recent economic issues, tourism there has become much cheaper so now is the time to go! For food, everything was cheap, we went to the most expensive restaurant in Reykjavik, the revolving restaurant called the Perlan, and this was £35 a head included a five-course meal, a bottle of wine and drinks. Trust me I was as surprised as anyone but I would completely recommend it as the views are breathtaking. However, this was a last night treat and for the rest of the time we went to normal restaurants in the city centre. To be warned, the food there is pretty European and we did struggle to find any traditional Icelandic restaurants because everywhere has adapted for the tourists. However, with the use of trip advisor and the trusty internet we found some really cute places to eat, including Rossopomodoro and a whisky bar called Dillons which I would highly recommend to anyone, live music and great food!
Looking at activities I guess you could say I saw all those typical tourist attractions but my oh my they were amazing. So while we were there we had a major storm, the worst since winter had begun in Iceland in fact so that is always fun! The activities we did were snowmobiling and the Golden Circle which consisted of Gulfoss Waterfall, Strokker (the geysers) and Thingvellir National Park where the tectonic plates meet. Now this trip was amazing I can't even tell you! Definitely definitely do all of these, the views were breathtaking and the size of Gulfoss waterfall is like I have never seen, priceless and an amazing experience. The snowmobiling was a bonus activity we did and it was so worth the money, the most expensive activity but also the most fun as we got to go in pairs and drive ourselves! Lastly, we also went to the Blue Lagoon and that fabulous, to be in the freezing cold air and then be sitting in boiling hot water is a very weird sensation but something I would love to do again. You get a free face mask and you can also use the mud as a face mask with a free towel and drink! (trust me one drink is enough!!).
I hope you like all the photos I have included and would share any amazing travel experiences had because I would love to hear!
